P.S. 39 Edible Community Garden:  1st Grade Enrichment Clusters

The first grade enrichment clusters helped with the first succession seeding of the front yard SIPs.   They sprinkled the seeds with magic dust otherwise known as fungal and bacterial soil microbes and then planted fast growing cool weather crops of spinach, radishes, greens, lacinato kale, beets and carrots.  They will watch the wonder of their snow pea, sugar snaps and fava beans twist and wrap themselves around the front fence.  They also seed started Tiger Beans in soda bottle SIPs, where they will be able to readily witness plant science.  The kids also got their first lessons in knowing when to accurately water by using one of their most important garden tools, soil probes.
