P.S. 39 Edible Community Garden: March 30th Opening Ceremony

At the opening ceremony, we were hoping to give our kids a wow moment. We wanted to create a signal that they were going to embark into a really special project, their garden. We offered free garden related crafts and face painting. But also, a party is not quite complete without the celebration of food. A key goal of this program is to excite a growing connection to healthy eating. We created a fantastic animal world made from fruit and vegetables inspired by the playfood food creations of Saxton Freymann/Joost Elffers.  Based on the devoured installation, the garden program is off to an enthusiastic beginning.
